Women in Focus: Ms. Yvonne Khamati

“Gitobu Imanyara introduced me to politics, the deep end of politics and left me to swim with the sharks... From being a youth advisor to the UN... I moved to a boardroom filled with propaganda, insults... It was literally a change from day to night”

As Yvonne Khamati took me through her story, I could not help but marvel at her courage, wisdom, consistency and eloquence. I thought to myself “how can such a young lady have the answers to almost everything (and I use the word almost loosely)?” and as we drew to a close of the interview it dawned on me that as the youth we lost greatly when Ms Yvonne Khamati did not win the Makadara seat in 2002.

GGP Partner in focus: ECWD

ECWD has formed a support group/loose network comprising of women aspirants. The working group which meets on a monthly schedule will act as advisory, support and networking group. Sisterhood needs to be encouraged; to apply the same strategies that men apply successfully to garner support in political campaigns. ECWD provides the meeting space and support communication logistics to sustain this much-needed initiative.

Article: How long is the fight for a third representation going to last?

The woman at the grassroots bears the brunt when we don't achieve one third but surely, how can the woman at the grassroot women fathom our fight for equal representation in public life when the birth of a son is more celebrated than the birth of a daughter making mothers' of daughters consider themselves less fortunate than mothers' of sons.

Irene Githua looks at some of issues that have made a third representation elusive and some things we can do to achieve our goal more
