Wambui Otieno Mbugua speaking at the National Conference for 2007 Women Parliamentary Aspirants at KICC

"I am so excited to see the young female aspirants coming up to compete and take up political positions. A while ago I thought they were ignorant or were not bothered at all . Whenever I turned  all I could see was old women like me and it left me wondering “Where are the women?” and that led me to write a book where I asked ‘where are you my girl child’. After all that struggle, I can now see that women are standing up and being elected.

I am one of the oldest players in the game and now I am asking you my dear girl child to rise up and come out of your cocoons and fight. It is only then that you can be able to say to the men 'here we are let us stay up and make Kenya a better place to live in.' I have come a long way through thick and thin and fought without bitterness. It is time for others to keep up the fight and carry on the struggle.

Last night i made a prayer for the women aspirants and I told God to fight for them. I know they will win because it is God who will win this for them.

I have started a party, in honour of the women. This is the Kenya People's Congress Party. I want the women to know that this party is for them and we are ready to accomodate them and give them nominations even if they fail to succeed in other parties."
