| Plan for a woman President by 2017.

The ninth parliament’s rejection of the Bill that would have ensured 50 seats were reserved for women should not discourage members of the fairer sex.
Women have the majority vote and should elect more women into the Tenth Parliament. Already the high number of female aspirants witnessed in many constituencies is encouraging. The next parliament could have the highest number of female MPs since Independence.
Women leaders should rise up and be counted long with their male counterparts. They should strategically position themselves so that in ten years’ time there would be a credible and competent woman leader who would seriously vie for the top seat and even realistically clinch it.
This has already happened in countries such as Liberia, Germany and most recently, Argentina. Even the most powerful nation in the world, the US, could have their very first woman president as early as next year in Senator Hillary Clinton.
Gone are the days when women were regarded as the weaker sex and certain positions of authority reserved only for men.
Leaders such as Mrs. Charity Ngilu, Ms. Martha Karua, Prof. Wangari Maathai and Ms. Njoki Ndung’u among others should be commended for their efforts in bringing gender equality and proving that indeed women can hold high positions in the country today.
2017 is the year for a woman president in Kenya!
