PNU: The Women to watch

pnuPNU nominations well underway are going to be a tough battle with several constituencies going for joint nominations. The whole of Central, Western and Nairobi Province will be seeking Joint nominations in all PNU affiliate parties whereas Eastern Province considered to be Kalonzo’s strong hold has issues direct nominations to various candidates.

Direct Nominations

Some female parliamentary candidates have benefitted from direct nominations and we can expect to see their names on the ballot paper come December 27th.  Adelina Mwau in Kaiti constituency, Martha Karua in Gachugu as well as Susan Mwanzia in Kitui South have been offered direct nomination under PNU.

Nairobi

Others who have to face off either for  joint nominations for PNU certificates include Beatrice Wasike of FORD Kenya, Catherine Kihara of NARC Kenya, Beth Mugo in Dagoretti, Betty Tett in Westlands, Isabella Wanjiku and Peris Karanja whi will fight it out in NARC Kenya for the Kasarani parliamentary seat.

Coast

Esther Mbeu has to beat Saidi  Dume for the FORD Kenya ticket in Kinango  where the PNU affiliate parties will be fielding their own candidates. In Bahari, where the PNU affiliate parties are going for a joint nomination, Aisha Karisa of KANU and Margaret Safari of NARC Kenya will be looking to beat Wycliffe Tembo of FORD Kenya. Others to look out for at the Coast are Joyce Bahati and Ruth Mwakulomba of NARC Kenya in Mwatate where PNU affiliate parties will be fielding their own candidates with Marsden Madoka getting a direct nomination from PNU.

North Eastern

Zainab Idifle the only female parliamentary aspirant in North Eastern will be trying to beat Mohamed Sidiye and Abdulahi Sheikh for the KANU ticket in Lagdera.

Eastern

We are definitely going to see Mary Ngoyni of NARC Kenya on the ballot paper in Laisamis where PNU affiliate parties are fielding their own candidates.  Elossy Murungi is however not so lucky. She has to battle it out with KANU, DP and NARC Kenya parliamentary candidates for joint nominations in Nithi. Former nominated MP,  Cecily Mbarire of DP and Kanini Nyagah of FORD Kenya have a task to beat other PNU affiliated parliamentary aspirants for Runyenjes  and Gachoka respectively. Sophie Musembi (SPARK) will be one to watch in Kangundo, as she fights it out with other aspirants in PNU affiliate parties.

Central

Party nominations in Central Province will probably be the worst nightmare for many aspirants in PNU affiliated parties. All constituencies in Central are fielding joint nominations.

Our PNU aspirants to watch will be Ann Kirima (NARC Kenya) in Kinangop, Faith Gitau (NARC Kenya) in Ndaragwa, Prof. Wangari Maathai (Mazingira Greens Party of Kenya), Dr. Cecelia Mwathi (DP), Rachael Nyokabi (NARC Kenya) all in Tetu constituency where there are 13 aspirants going for joint nominations.

Nyeri Town’s Esther Murugi of NARC Kenya will be facing off 12 other PNU contenders in an area where a PNU certificate almost guarantees a win in the elections. In Mwea, we’ll be looking out for Christine Wangu (NARC Kenya), Njeri Mbuchi (NARC Kenya) and Lydia Nyambura (KANU) whereas Alice Wahome (Narc Kenya) will have to beat Edward Kagumo (KANU), James Maina (NARC-K), Joshua Toro (NARC-K) and Daniel Kihiko (DP). Christine Miller (NARC-K) and Rose Waruhiu (DP) are our female aspirants to watch in Githunguri. So are Nancy Hinga (FORD-K) and Evelyn Mungai (KANU) in Kikuyu , as well as Carline Ng’ang’a (DP) in Lari, Mary Kirika (National Alliance Party of Kenya) in Juja and Marion Mutugi (DP) in Ndia.

Rift Valley

In Eldoret East, Rose Koech will be fighting for a PNU ticket together with Eunice Kabui (DP) in Laikipia West, Jane Kihara (NARC-K) in Naivasha and Joyce Karimi (KANU) as well as Florence Wambui (NARC-K) in Molo.

In Rongai, we’ll be looking out for Alicen Rono in NARC-K where she’ll be battling it out with seven other aspirants for the PNU certificate whereas Hilda Mukui (DP) has to win Purity Muritu (DP) and 12 other aspirants for the PNU nomination certificate in Subukia.

We will also be looking out for Kwanza’s Edna Sang’ (KANU), Saboti’s Elizabeth Nasimuyu (FORD-K).

Western

In Western where PNU affiliate parties are fielding joint candidates, Auxillia Shiranda (National Renewal Peoples’ Party) in Matungu will be fighting it out with Raphael Welimo. Prof. Ruth Oniang’o will be looking to come back to parliament as the MP for Butere on a KANU ticket where they are holding joint nominations with NARC-K’s Mohammed Khayundi.

Jane Nalcar (FORD-K), Janet Midecha (KANU), Angela Fedha (NARC-K) as well as Happy Gloria (FORD-K) will be at it in Khwisero, Sabatia, Vihiga and Butula constituencies respectively.

Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi (FORD-K) will have to beat 16 other contenders in the hotly contested Kimilili PNU nominations.
