| Florence Ogur - Aspirant Nyatike Constituency
On the need to sensitize men more
The symbol that I use during my campaigns is a wooden spoon. This wooden spoon is used in our homes for service just like the leadership I bring to my community: a leadership of service.
I have heard some inflammatory remarks regarding women and leadership, “Women are now moving from the Kitchen into the Sitting room.”
God did not create us to sit in the sitting room. God created us with a purpose, a purpose on the move and we have to harness the qualities of a woman; love and development and work together with men. We cannot do without each other and neither can we outdo one another. Do not fear our leadership..."Our leadership is a leadership of love. We are living in their houses with them, we cook for them, and we take care of them.
We can do it if you support us."
I have observed that men are very sentitive when they are not fully involved in sensitisation and usually boycott. More Seminars should be organised on Women Leadership and I feel strongly that this will aid my vision for the people of Nyatike.
"Always liaise with men. Let men sing your praises, let them speak well of you".
Character - Florence is a go-getter
Vision - Economic empowerment for the constituency and inculcating the entrepreneurship skills in my people.
Reason for Vying - To uplift the livelihoods of my people.
Statement - Give me a chance to make a difference.
My Campaign Activities
Mobilizing men, women and youths to form groups to benefit from loans which are being offered with various Micro-finance and financial institutions and the Government Youth and Women fund.
Helping build strategies on business and farming in my constituency. I have been going to village to village, churches, burials and markets places to create a women rights awareness (by wearing T-shirts which reads (*REAL MEN DO NOT ABUSE WOMEN*) and distributing - STOP CORRUPTION CARDS. I encourage my constituents to take loans for businesses and farming through the media/Radio.
"From my experience at the grassroots, people are now willing to change from male to female leadership, as previous leaders who have all been men since Kenyan Independence have no progress to show nor is there an iimprovement in people’s living standard in the constituency to date. Male leaders confront to out do one another on the platform, talking about themselves and what they have, without proper vision for the people. I inform the constituents about Millennium Development Goals set by the U.N. and the Government for the uplifting of living standard for the people."
MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (M.D.G.S)
1. Eradicate extreme poverty
2. Promote gender equality and empower women
3. Achieve universal primary Education
4. Reduce Child Mortality – which is finishing children in Nyatike.
5. Improve Maternal Health – is like monument in Nyatike.
6. Combat Hiv/Aids, Malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environment sustainability – going to be desert soon if not helped.
8. Develop a global partnership for development
"That makes me popular about telling them the truth, that they have to work hard for us to achieve this goals. I have told them that bribery, cheating and forms of corruptions will not bring development."
